Kitten Smitten: A Love That Dared Not Bark Its Name... Till Now.
“I know this may sound crazy, and please don’t tell my friends. They’ll say I’m weird, but here’s the thing:I think I might like cats…”
Thus begins, “Kitten Smitten: A Love That Dared Not Bark Its Name… Till Now.” This is the story of Rex, a big, tough dog whose sometimes fierce demeanor toward other dogs conceals his life-long, secret love of all things feline.
The story is told in light verse, with rich imagery and vibrant, color illustrations designed to be interesting and entertaining to readers from primary school through adulthood.
Although the story begins with a shy admission, it ends with Rex’s joyous declaration of self-acceptance. The underlying themes are universal:
ϖ Love is Love. ϖ Be yourself.ϖ It’s okay to be different.

The Back Story
Originally written as a stand-alone poem called simply, "The Love That Dare Not Bark Its Name" -- Oscar Wilde fans may recognize the reference -- "Kitten Smitten: A Love That Dared Not Bark Its Name... Till Now" is based on a true story about a canine neighbor-friend of the author's. Although he could be pretty gruff with other dogs, he became gentle as a lamb around cats. He would whimper at the front door for a chance just to see them, and then would follow them around the house nuzzling them gently... until one cat raised his paw in a warning to stop sniffing his little kitty caboose. The 'fierce canine predator' recoiled, screamed, and jumped -- backwards! -- onto the sofa to hide behind his owner. Slightly pathetic, but very sweet. The poem just kind of wrote itself from there.
